"Rest In Peace, cousin. Although we werent close in age, you were a part of our many family gatherings years ago. Now that there arent many Grygus left, those memories mean a lot."
It is hard to say good bye to a good friend and cottage neighbor who I have known for over 40 years. You were a friend, confident, and "family" to Aaron, Ellyn, Emily, and myself as well as Roz and Mike. We would spend summers chatting either in the picnic bench in our back yards, on the porch, under the beautiful maple tree in the backyard that Rita bought for her father, or anytime that we saw each other.
When I was pregnant with my daughter , she was my "go-to" person for medical help.
Rita and her mother were always at big events in our life. They saw Aaron and I get married, our daughter's birth, her Bat Mitzvah, wedding, and baby shower.
I became very close to Rita in the past two summers. Last summer, I spent every day checking up on her, helping her with shopping, and even going to the emergency room with her.
As we were sitting in the emergency room one day last summer, the doctor asked her if she lived alone and who was taking care of her. She pointed to me so I guess I was the one .
It was difficult for me to leave the cottage at the beginning of August last summer when I decided to return to teaching but I know that Aaron would help her and he did. He took care of the cat, watered the flowers and checked on the cottage until he traveled south. I also know that she was so proud of me for making the step back into teaching.
Being in Florida, for some reason, makes the loss greater. I loved Rita and still do. I wish I could have been with all of you at this time. We will miss her.

"Rita was a wise mentor to me when I joined the Board of the Hospital for Special Care 5 years ago. Smart, supportive, great sense of humor. She made a difference in my life. Georgian Lussier"

"Rita shared her intellect, insights and vast knowledge to the great benefit of Hospital for Special Care's patients and its nursing and medical team. It was a privilege to work with her and to get to know her; she was truly a multi-faceted, caring and interesting person that I am certain improved every place she ever spent time, including our hospital, the NBMAA and her shoreline community. Sending my deepest sympathy to her family and wishing for them the peace that surpasses all understanding."
