Loving Wife, Mother, Daughter and Friend

Lucyna (Kurys) Spears, 44, of Windsor, beloved wife of Michael Spears, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, after a two year battle with cancer, surrounded by many of her close family and friends. Along with her loving husband Mike, she is survived by her two boys, Joseph and Nicholas, her mother Stella, and predeceased by her father Kazimierz. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by countless cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and many other in-laws and extended family. Lucy grew up in Newington and attended the local schools. After graduating from Newington High School, she was employed by A + P Foodmart for over 20 years and married her soulmate in 1999. Lucy continued her education at Branford Hall and graduated with honors. She then went on to work as a Medical Assistant with Grove Hill in New Britain and most recently UConn Medical Center. After being married, Lucy moved to Windsor and attended St. Gertrude's Church and loved watching her sons participate in various sports including basketball, football and swimming. Her other passions included spoiling her dogs Gabby and Tyson, watching football as a lifelong 49ers fan, cross country trips, New England beaches, the casino, boating and fishing. Her funeral service will begin on Tuesday, May 1st, at 9:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington. She will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.

Mike and boys, My family and I are so very sorry for your loss. I will never forget Lucy and her fun, happy spirit. She was a wonderful friend/co-worker and we had so many laughs while working together at Grove Hill that I will cherish forever! She was a strong, positive, kind person. Our prayers are with you. She is now a guardian angel in heaven.

It's so hard to say goodbye. Lucy has been a part of my life for more than 25 years. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Lucy left behind an amazing family and many friends. I pray that those who were close to her are comforted in this time of sorrow. I know that I will always hold her near and dear to my heart. With deepest sympathy to Mike, Joey, Nick and all of Lucy's family. She was an amazing friend and co-worker who loved her family deeply and her work at UCONN with the patient's. She was and will always be one of the strongest, bravest and beautiful person, inside and out ,that I have ever met and had the pleasure of calling my friend. You are truly missed Lucy.
