Obituary for Andrea (Wanik) Oden

Plainville, Connecticut

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Daughter

Andrea (Wanik) Oden, 57, of Plainville, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on Monday, April 23, 2018. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Wayne H. Oden for almost 33 years. Born and raised in New Britain, daughter of Janet (Peterson) Wanik of FL and the late Walter M. Wanik, she was a Plainville resident for 26 years. Andrea received her Master's degree in Special Education from Central CT State University. She ultimately found her calling in financial aid counseling and ran her own business, the Financial Aid Consulting Team (tFACT). She was also proud of her three years serving as an Animal Control Officer with the Plainville Police Dept. Andrea loved to scour flea markets and thrift stores in search of treasures, (she found many!) and so very much enjoyed the hunt for items that her friends would request her to look for. She even owned and operated her own antique store, Oden's Attic in Vermont, with her husband for five years. "A quality country tag sale of old and new". One of five generations of living females from ages 3 to 104, she spent her final day the only way she would want, basking in the sun beside her beloved grandchildren. Andrea was a woman with a larger than life personality, an infectious laugh and a heart of gold. Those who knew her, loved her. She was the life of everyone's party. Her memory will forever be eternal. Along with her husband and mother, she leaves her three children, Justine Oden Thibedeau and her husband Richard of Plainville, Scott Oden and his fiancé Jessica Levandowski of New Britain, and Kurt Oden of Plainville, and her two grandchildren, Sweet Caroline and Russell (Bubby) Thibedeau. She also leaves her grandmother, Lydia Peterson, her brother, Michael W. Wanik and his wife Jillian, all of New Britain, her sister-in-law Christine (Oden) Kryzwick and her husband Francis of Burlington, many nieces and nephews, her high school girlfriends whom she enjoyed girlcations with and a boat load of close friends and extended family. Relatives and friends are invited to remember a few of her favorite things on Saturday, May 5th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to contribute to her grandchildren's college education and addressed to the TD Bank account in the name of Justine Oden Thibedeau account ending in 0686.
