Beloved Mother, Grandmother & Friend

Obituary

Anita Fairwood passed away peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, April 8, 2018. A very proud New Yorker, she was born in Brooklyn, New York and spent the first 20+ years of her life living in "the city" before relocating to Connecticut after her marriage. She was a resident of Newington for the last 34 years of her life and a long time parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit, now part of Annunciation parish.
Family - her children - were first and foremost for Anita. She really enjoyed their company and, being a wonderful cook, made mealtime a special treat. Holiday dinners were enhanced by her special touch to the menu that guaranteed no one would be hungry later in the evening.
She loved attending the 7:30 am Mass on Sundays and always looked forward to coffee and donuts in the church hall afterwards where she could meet and talk with friends. She loved going out shopping, purposely getting just enough for today so she could make another trip tomorrow. Family members who accompanied her were always amazed when store personnel would greet her by name when she walked into many stores and a warm conversation would follow.
Anita lived for the family's Christmas/New Year's trip to Florida every year, especially when her daughter accepted a position in Radiology in the Pompano Beach area. She loved to travel and also enjoyed family trips to the West Coast and Las Vegas.
She leaves her sons Richard Fairwood and Ronald Fairwood, both of Newington and her daughter Maureen Kievman of Deerfield Beach, Florida. She also loves her very special grandchildren, Kevin Kievman and Ryan Fairwood. She also leaves behind her former husband George Fairwood of Grand Isle, Florida.
She was predeceased by her step-father, Mario Rizza, and her mother, Blanche (Deckerman) Rizza, of New York as well as her cherished pet Lhasa Apsos, Peanut and Koko. More than likely, she is out walking them now in heaven. Mom, we will miss you always as well as our afternoon trips to Dunkin' Donuts or Carvel and our weekend fine dining dinner dates.
A celebration of Anita's life will take place on Friday, April 13, 2018, meeting directly at Church of the Holy Spirit at 10:00 AM with interment services following at West Meadow Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to call for visitation on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave, Newington.
