Obituary for Robert E. Loss

March 25, 1949 - March 7, 2018
Kensington, Connecticut | Age 68

FUNERAL RESCHEDULED DUE TO WEATHER - The world is a sadder place with the unexpected passing of Robert Loss, 68, of Kensington on March 7, 2018. Born in New Britain on March 25, 1949, the son of the late Edward and Helen (Yapczanka) Loss, he was a former New Britain resident, moving to Kensington in 1991. Bob was a graduate of New Britain High School, Hartford Technical College and the University of New Haven. With a degree in mechanical engineering, Bob spent many years working at both WAUSAU Insurance and retiring from Kemper Insurance in 2006. Bob, an adventurous traveler, journeyed with family and friends to the far reaches of the world exploring the incredible diversity of cultures our world has to offer. He had recently returned from a three-week tour of Australia and New Zealand. From every continent he visited, he brought back gifts for the family, incredible photographs and wonderful stories. An avid sports fan, Bob was particularly enthusiastic about the Yankees, Giants football, and above all the UConn Men's and Women's basketball teams. Bob proudly wore a UConn jersey to the places he traveled (including the Great Wall of China) often provoking a lively conversation among his fellow travelers. Bob was a friend to all who knew him and always had a smile and a joke to tell. With his generous and caring nature, he always found the time to help a neighbor, a friend and family. He was highly cherished and will be missed by all who knew him. Bob leaves his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Stephen Henry, of Kensington, his nephew Brendan Henry of Kensington and his beloved niece and godchild, Sarah Henry, of Manhattan. He will be forever missed by his extended family especially by his dear cousins, Joyce Dygus and Dennis Staba. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gary Loss. His funeral service will now be held on Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:30 a.m., at St. Paul's Church, Kensington. He will be laid to rest in the family plot in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Burritt Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory, may be made to the St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 54 Winter Street, New Britain, CT 06050. To share a memory with his family, please visit us at
